Here are my thoughts and notes from The Voice Last Night. Don't forget...you can hear The Morning Crew's Thoughts on The Voice for the rest of the season on News 2 Today at 6:20am on Tuesday and Wednesday Mornings, LIVE from our Studios!
MY PICKS FOR THE BOTTOM TWO...AFTER WATCHING ALL THE PERFORMANCES: KRIS THOMAS AND SASHA ALLEN What do you think?
THE ELITE 12 PERFORMED...
1.TEAM USHER:
VEDO-"ROCK WITH YOU" MICHAEL JACKSON
wants to be a pop artist. trying to hard to dance and is losing his breath. decent voice, dance moves were a little weird. judges thought the dance moves worked.
2. TEAM BLAKE:
HOLLY TUCKER-"BROKEN WING" MARTINA MCBRIDE
big voice. nailed it! standing "o" from Blake. Usher said anyone who doubted her talent is a frickin' idiot.
3. TEAM SHAKIRA:
GARRETT GARDNER-"I WANT IT THAT WAY" BACKSTREET BOYS
rock approach to the pop hit. judges didn't love it. It was Shakira's choice for the song and style...hope it wasn't a poor coaching choice. I think this kid did a great job with what he has to work with. safe this week
4. TEAM ADAM
SARAH SIMMONS-"THE STORY" BRANDI CARLISLE
powerful! based on talent alone...she should be in top 3. showed extremes of her voice on this one...great song choice. she was able to bring in a little florence and the machine...and a little stevie nicks..amazing performance...
5 TEAM BLAKE:
THE SWON BROTHERS "WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES" GEORGE JONES
they wanted to do a tribute to George Jones, so Blake let them. They took a Florida Georgia Line approach to Fishin in the Dark last week (another classic). This week, it was a very low key contemporary approach to this song. totally different than last week. equally as good. they should make it through
6.TEAM SHAKIRA:
SASHA ALLEN "ALONE" HEART
she makes crazy faces. I will say she had a lot of emotion in the song. i think she made it sound like a show tune, though. not my favorite. not so sure that Sharika isn't setting up her team for failure with song choices
7. TEAM USHER:
JOSIAH HAWLEY "THE MAN WHO CAN'T BE MOVED"
acoustic performance. talented performer...gifted vocally...but his looks are gonna have the ladies put him in the top 5. Not the biggest voice on the show but the song choice tonight was a great choice for him
8. TEAM BLAKE:
DANIELLE BRADBERRY- "WASTED" CARRIE UNDERWOOD
youngest contestant on the show. Adam says she is the one to beat in the competition. I didn't hear it tonight. She seems to be a nice...all American Girl. She is likeable and she will get votes. She has what it takes to be a star in today's country music... I don't think she is the one to beat on this show. Probably in the Top 5.
9.TEAM ADAM
JUDITH HILL "YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND" CAROLE KING
played piano herself. totally no help from the band. voice is amazing! Still the one to beat!!!!!! Why is she not already a star? Light years ahead anyone else on the show. They could end this show tonight.
10. TEAM USHER:
MICHELLE CHAMUEL "CALL YOUR GIRLFRIEND"
gonna get the underdog vote. not sure this uptempo pop song was the best song choice. she had that breakout moment last week that connected with the audience...she did not have that this week. she is quirky and unique. she won't be in the bottom two.
11. TEAM SHAKIRA:
KRIS THOMAS: "I'LL BE THERE" JACKSON 5
super high voice. usher wasn't impressed. if you are gonna sing Michael Jackson, you need to nail it. He didn't. Could go home.
12. TEAM ADAM
AMBER CARRINGTON: "I'M GONNA LOVE YOU THROUGH IT" MARTINA MCBRIDE
solid performance. middle of the pack. she is safe. judges had good things to say about her.
Ugh. That's all I can say. Just watch this.
