A waiter recently got stiffed on their tip from a surprising customer - a Pastor. The man came in with a large party and it’s the restaurant's policy to include an automatic 18% tip on the bill with a group that large. The man crossed out the automatic tip and wrote: “I give God 10%, why do you get 18%?” and instead put a zero for the tip amount. He then was sure to sign “Pastor” before his name on the check. The server had no complaints from the party about their service, it was just the issue of not wanting to leave a tip.

The Applebee’s employee who posted the picture of the “I give God 10% why do you get 18” receipt was fired after the pastor called and complained. She said it wasn’t a receipt left for her; another server had gotten it and she took a picture because she thought it was funny. But, after it took off on Reddit.com, people started trying to figure out who the pastor was based on the scribbled signature, and they did. The waitress has released a statement: “Whether or not she left a tip, the note was still offensive. It wasn’t my table, it wasn’t my tip. But you can’t really argue with what’s plainly written, and what was written was insulting. Insulted or not, I’ve lost my job over this mess, and that’s what I’m concerned with now.” Applebee’s released this statement: “We value our Guests’ trust above all else.” The St. Louis, MO pastor who left the "I give God 10% why do you get 18%" receipt has apologized. She says her “heart is really broken” and she’s brought “embarrassment” to her “church and ministry.”
