A World War II vet in Union Mills, North Carolina got his Purple Heart back 70 years later. The now 90-year-old man received his Purple Heart after being hit by shrapnel September 11, 1944 from enemy sniper fire. He thought it was in his medal box but it wasn’t. A man bought the Purple Heart at an antique store in Columbia, South Carolina in 2000 and spent years trying to finds the rightful owner. The vet got his Purple Heart back, along with a Bronze Star that he never knew the military had granted him at a special ceremony.
