What We Talked about
Tuesday 08-19-2008 10:08am ET

Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, LeAnn Rimes and Trace Adkins have turned to their closets to help out charity. They're auctioning off autographed shirts that they've worn. The proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Web site KeithUrbanAuction.com is hosting the ``You Look Good in My Old T-Shirt Auction,'' which is named after Urban's hit single ``You Look Good in My Shirt.'' Fans can also bid on Dwight Yoakam's cowboy boots, Sara Evans' sweater and Faith Hill's blouse. So far the top moneygetters are three of Urban's T-shirts, which are in the 300-dollar range. Shirts worn by Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood are also generating a lot of interest.

Leave Johnny Cash out of it. Rosanne Cash wants her late father Johnny Cash left out of the presidential campaign. She's putting people on notice after John Rich implied Johnny Cash would have backed John McCain. She writes on her Web site that it's ``appalling'' that people want to use her father's name ``to ascribe beliefs, ideals, values and loyalties to him that cannot possibly be determined, and to try to further their own agendas by doing so.'' The Washington Post reports that at a pro-McCain concert earlier this month, Rich declared: ``I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around.'' Then Rich played Cash's ``Walk the Line.'' Rosanne Cash says she knew her father pretty well and that ``even I would not presume to say publicly what I 'know' he thought or felt.'' She says, ``It is unfair and presumptuous to use him to bolster any platform.'' John Rich has made no bones about his choice for president, going so far as to write and record a pro-McCain anthem called ``Raisin' McCain.''

Glen Campbell had never heard of Green Day or Foo Fighters, but that didn't stop him from covering their songs on his new album out today. Campbell says, ``It really is hard to mess up a good song,'' adding ``they just lay there great.'' Campbell also covers U2, Tom Petty and John Lennon on the CD entitled ``Meet Glen Campbell.'' He says he had never heard a lot of the songs. He started with about 200 tunes and whittled it down. He says, ``I just picked the ones that I liked, that I wanted to sing.'' So what's the meaning behind the album's title ``Meet Glen Campbell''? He says ``it's just another side of me coming out.'' The guys started to have a laugh about this, until they listened to the music. It is actually very good. Glen can still sing and does justice to all these tunes. Check it out!

Michael Plelps talks about his Mother on NBC Sports

For some, TV's most memorable moment was February 9th, 1964, when The Beatles sang ``I Want to Hold Your Hand'' on ``The Ed Sullivan Show.'' For others, it's ``Newhart's'' final episode when we find out the entire series was a dream. There's also ``The Contest'' episode from ``Seinfeld,'' Ellen DeGeneres' coming out episode, and even the announcement of the first ``American Idol'' winner: Kelly Clarkson, who got a long hug from Justin Guarini. ABC is taking votes online for most memorable comedy scenes and dramatic scenes. Of the 20 choices in each category, the top five will be announced and shown at the Emmys on September 21st. Voting is at http://emmys.abc.com

The latest survey on the mindset of incoming college freshmen finds they've always known plastic soft drink bottles, and phones have always had caller ID. They've also only known Jay Leno as host of ``The Tonight Show.''

Kaye made her usual stop by the studio this mornig with a friend from the Charleston Animal Society. TJ feel in love with this girl! Check out "Satin" and all the other great animals available for adoption by clicking the "POUND PUPPYS" button in the left column.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

An 8-year-old Wisconsin guitar wiz says the problems he's had trying to play legally will make him a better blues artist. Tallan ``T-Man'' Latz has been playing since he was 5 years old. He's played with Les Paul and performed in bars and nightclubs, including Chicago's House of Blues. That's before an anonymous tipster complained to state officials that child labor laws bar Tallan from playing in taverns and clubs. And before his booking agent got an anonymous death threat. Earlier, the boy's father says he heard a local guitarist say Tallan shouldn't be in a bar and that he was going to turn him in. Tallan can still play at festivals. But the boy's father is asking a legislator for help changing the law.

John McCain likes ABBA. The disco group twice made his top-ten list of favorite songs, published by Blender magazine. ``Dancing Queen'' was his top choice, while he ranked ``Take A Chance On Me'' third. Roy Orbison's ``Blue Bayou'' ranked second. Merle Haggard's ``If We Make It Through December'' and Dooley Wilson's ``As Time Goes By'' were in his top five. He also selected songs from the Beach Boys, Louis Armstrong, Neil Diamond and The Platters. Barack Obama's favorite is the hip-hop jam ``Ready or Not'' by the Fugees. Marvin Gaye's ``What's Going On'' ranked second. ``I'm on Fire'' by Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stone's ``Gimme Shelter'' and Nina Simone's ``Sinnerman'' rounded out his leading five. Both candidates had Frank Sinatra on their lists.

We'll have to wait until next summer to see what's up with Harry Potter and his wizard friends. ``Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'' is being moved from November to next summer. It'll open July 17th instead of November 21st. Warner Brothers says the writers' strike changed the dates when other movies would be released and created a good slot for this fifth Harry Potter film. The studio says their movie was progressing on schedule and could have been released in November, if they wanted.

Jewel's back from her honeymoon and spilling the beans on her surprise wedding. She writes on her Web site that new hubby Ty Murray proposed on her birthday, May 23rd. They'd just wrapped shooting the video for her new single ``I Do,'' which she wrote about their relationship. She says, ``I was so surprised!!!'' She says Ty gave her a leather strap with a key on it, instead of a ring, because ``A diamond would have given us away.'' She says, ``It was really fun to have our own little secret.'' And when people asked about the strap and key, she'd say it was the key to Ty's heart. Ty and Jewel tied the knot on Thursday, August 7th. Jewel walked toward her new life with Ty Murray to the strains of Otis Redding's ``I've Been Loving You Too Long.'' She says her surprise nuptials in the Bahamas earlier this month were magical. She says ``It was perfect! I loved my dress, I loved the cake, I loved our rings, and I loved the beach and the sunset.... It was absolutely perfect!'' Ty and Jewel wrote their own vows. And as a present, the hotel sprung for fireworks. She says, ``we danced as they exploded! It was like a fairy tale!''

Brad Paisley is making it easy for fans to remember to pick up his new album. It comes out on Election Day, November 4th. The CD entitled ``Play'' is mostly instrumental. The guitar-based album has only four vocal tracks and they feature Paisley singing and picking with B.B. King, Keith Urban, Steve Wariner and the late Buck Owens.

TJ is looking predicting the end of the world. Apparently, Jessica Simpson will make her Grand Ole Opry debut next month. Simpson shares the bill with Loretta Lynn, Roy Clark, and Patty Loveless. Simpson's performance is September 6th. Her debut country album ``Do You Know'' hits stores September 9th. Tj said this was mentioned in Revelations just before the Four Horsemen.

Tim McGraw and John Rich will team up with Dierks Bentley for his third annual celebrity motorcycle ride and concert benefiting Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. The ``Miles and Music for Kids'' event kicks off Sunday, October 5th. The ride ends in downtown Nashville, with a jam session featuring Bentley, McGraw and Rich. The past two years, the event has raised over $250,000 for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Willie Nelson has found the time to write a book. Nelson has co-authored a western called ``A Tale Out of Luck.'' It revolves around Texas Rangers, cattle rustling, Indian warriors, women of ill repute, saloons and shootouts. The book hits stores September 3rd.

Kenny Chesney has snagged Bob Marley's legendary Wailers Band to appear in the music video for his new song ``Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven,'' the first single from Chesney's upcoming album. The video was shot in Jamaica. Chesney says ``it was great to work with them.'' He says they were generous with their time and stories. He says ``We sat up one night on the beach, and they shared the whole history of the band.'' The Wailers also sing on the CD version of ``Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven.''

Darius Rucker made his Grand Ol' Opry debut recently. He called to talked about that amazing experience ...
