Madonna’s 2nd directorial effort finally hits theaters. It tells the story of two “fragile, yet determined” women, one of whom is Wallis Simpson - the American divorcee for whom the King of England gave up his throne. Reviews, to put it mildly, have been wildly mixed.

Carrie Underwood announced she’ll release her new single, “Good Girl,” later this month. With today comes the news that her new CD will be released on Tuesday, May 1.  Produced by Mark Bright, the forthcoming album was featured in Entertainment Weekly’s recent “10 albums we can’t wait for.” This will be the fourth studio album on 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville for the five-time Grammy winner.

It's one of those performances that Kelly Clarkson is probably wishing that everybody will see — but few will remember. The gig is the one she has coming up on Sunday: singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. She will belt on the Star Spangled Banner before the New York Giants and England Patriots clash on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. While one can imagine that Clarkson doesn't mind the high-profile exposure, no singer wants to be remembered after the game like Christina Aguilera was after last year's big game. She flubbed a line during the anthem — and it got a lot of attention on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. She had to release a statement in an effort to quiet her critics. Others who have performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl include Clarkson's fellow "Idol" graduate Carrie Underwood, as well as Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and Mariah Carey.

It won't be the same as putting on pads, slapping on a helmet and trying to sack New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, but it is shaping up as a busy Sunday for Blake Shelton. He will be both on TV at the Super Bowl and on a show after it. Shelton and wife Miranda Lambert will team up for part of the pre-game package, singing "America the Beautiful." And after the game, Shelton will be featured as one of the judges on "The Voice." NBC is televising the game — and will air a special edition of the singing contest afterward. The network hopes football fans will stay tuned and watch — or at least not change the channel, so they can reap credit for at least some of that huge Super Bowl viewing audience.

The Post & Courier is reporting that a newly released police cruiser video shows a different story than the one given by the Sheriff’s Office regarding the capture of Timothy McManus earlier this week. The video shows McManus being beaten by officers as he is pulled from his vehicle. The video also shows that he is attacked by the police dog after he is on the ground. This seems to support the McManus family claims of police brutality. The ACLU is saying they applaud Sheriff Al Cannon’s call for a SLED investigation, and will wait for those results before they take any action.

Sugarland, Lady Antebellum and Trace Adkins are among the artists joining Keith Urban on the soundtrack for “Act of Valor,” an action film about an elite team of Navy SEALs and a mission to rescue a kidnapped CIA operative. Urban provided an original song, “For You,” which is featured in the film’s closing credits. Other new songs are performed by Sugarland (“Guide You Home”), Lady Antebellum (“I Was Here”), Adkins (“If the Sun Comes Up”), Lori McKenna (“Two Soldiers Coming Home”), Jake Owen (“The Best I Can”), Montgomery Gentry (“What It Takes”), Josh Kelley (“The Best of Me”), Hunter Hayes (“Where We Left Off”) and Wynonna (“Whatever Brings You Back”). The soundtrack will be released on February 21st and the film will open in theaters on February 24th.

Taylor Swift has donated 14,000 Scholastic books to the Nashville Public Library. The book donation is one of the largest received by the library. Books may be checked out at each of the city’s 21 branches. In addition, some of the books will be donated to low-income children, preschools and daycare centers, while others will be used as prizes for completing the summer reading program. Each book will have a donation plate on the inside cover that will read: “A Gift to the Children of Nashville from Taylor Swift and Scholastic Inc.”
