It sold - like - a jillion tickets, so to start off my series, "10 Second Movie Reviews", I thought that "Gravity" starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney would be a good place to start. Thanks to the awesome people at Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant for their hospitality and generosity!
The video above explains it all, really. I was very excited to see this movie. The commercials were beautifully shot and made me wonder what else would happen. Plus....I had found out that Ed Harris was the voice of "Houston" - just like in Apollo 13! But it was literally 2 hours of Sandra Bullock in space, floating and tumbling. If you are prone to motion sickness, I would not suggest seeing this movie. If you are averse to boring, shallow plots, I'd also suggest not going.
We just didn't get enough exposition to care about the characters, plain and simple. If you've seen Cast Away with Tom Hanks, you'll know what I'm talking about. While 90% of the movie was him stranded on an island, they gave looks at his personal life and character that made you root for him. You laughed and cried with him (and Wilson the Volleyball). I just didn't get attached to the characters...and then it was over. It was beautifully shot...some of the most remarkable cinematography I've ever seen. But the writing could have offered more.
I'll rate the movies I see from 0-5, with 5 being the best and 0 being the worse. I'd give Gravity a 1.5. It couldn't have LOOKED any better, but with the HUGE names in the credits, I expected much more in the way of plot. Stay tuned for future movie reviews coming soon....from me and the great folks at Cinebarre Mt. Pleasant!
